Of the 588 students that Hastings Prince Edward Public Health sent immunization notices to, 28 are from North Hastings.
“We’ve come down significantly,” says Program Manager Bill Sherlock. 2,700 total notices were sent out in January.
The 28 local students are from York River Public School, North Hastings High School, Hermon Public School, Bird’s Creek Public School and Maynooth Public School.
The 588 notices were sent out Monday, Sherlock says. Students will need to get their vaccinations updated before April 12th or else they risk suspension.
Sherlock notes that you can be exempted from getting your child vaccinated. A “conscientious objection” form can be filled out, he says, but included in doing that is a required 30 minute education session.
