Over 100 North Hastings students walked from Station Street to the Community Centre to protest changes to Ontario’s education system.
The Students Say No movement was started by grade 12 student Natalie Moore of Listowel.
“I want future generations and students to be able to have the experience that I have had in school,” North Hastings High School student Dylan Van Vliet said during the protest. He adds that increasing class sizes could negatively affect students since they could possibly not have as much one-on-one time with teachers as they did before.
Another North Hastings High School student Nicki Middag says she was planning on going to College next year, but with the changes to tuition fees, she says she won’t be able to now. “Doug Ford has decided to break down the education system for our generation and the generation to come,” she told My Bancroft now during the protest. “He’s taking away the budget, he’s taking away the teachers and he’s taking away our chance at a good education.”
