200 Local Volunteers Will be Celebrated, But There’s Many More in The Community

The Bancroft Legion will host 200 local volunteers this weekend, but Irene Halliday knows there are many more in the community.

Halliday is with the Volunteer & Information Centre of Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. They held their annual awards ceremony over the weekend in Belleville, but Halliday says they are happy to be hosting a celebration in Bancroft the second year-in-a-row.

With this week being national volunteer week, Halliday says she’s happy to get the chance to honour local volunteers. “It’s a chance for us to say thank you,” she says. “Everything here in Bancroft runs through volunteers.” She says volunteering is so important because it gives residents a chance to be out and be active and help the community.

The 200 people coming is the maximum that can fit in the Legion, Halliday says. The luncheon starts at 10 AM this Saturday.
