St. Paul’s United Church has taken on Hospice North Hastings as its new partner to help run the Village Playhouse in downtown Bancroft. A representative for the historic theatre says the Algonquin Arts Council has chosen to forfeit its long-term lease, which allows the hospice to step in. The decision was made after weeks of consultation with groups like the Bancroft Theatre Guild and Bancroft Summer Theatre. But the theatre says this is only the beginning of good things to come. There are plans to expand programs and events in the coming months. In the meantime, all current contracts will continue. A community discussion is being planned for the coming weeks.
