OPP Warn Residents to Stay Away From Closed Parks

With Churchill, Millennium and Riverside parks closed because of flooding, the Bancroft OPP warn that residents could be charged if they go past the barriers that have been set-up.

“Anytime someone gets close the ground could be very soft and if they fall in the river they’re going to be carried away,” Constable Philippe Regamey says. He says the barriers are put up for public safety so it’s important to obey them. Regamey says officers will be patrolling the area and may charge people with trespassing.

He adds that drivers need to avoid washed out roads. The water is hiding the condition of the road and it could be close to or has given way. “The water may appear to be shallow, but there could large gaps which could cause a vehicle to get stuck or submerged,” Regamey says.

If you do come across a washout and/or damage to a roadway, you’re being asked to contact the Town, Township or Municipality that the road is located in.
