Bancroft Taking Steps to Stop Vandalism in Parks

Security measures are on their way to protect the town’s parks.

Bancroft OPP’s Detachment Commander, Jeffrey McKinnon, says that security measures will be put in place to stop criminal activity from happening in Millenium and Riverside Park. This comes after a committee meeting was held which discussed the on-going issue.

“The Committee decided to create more security measures in the park” he says. They plan on adding lighting and implementing usage hours which would close the parks at 11:00 PM. He says usage hours will allow police to enter the parks and ask people to leave in order to make sure no one’s there overnight.

The committee also discussed the possibility of installing security cameras. Clerk Lianne Sauter says that a big part of the process is public education. She adds that vandalism has been an ongoing problem for several years and that parks are supposed to be a safe place for visitors, children and the general population.
