Free Job Search Workshops Available at Hastings Highlands Library

Every Tuesday in the month of May, Access Work Service of Barry’s Bay will be offering free job search training workshops at Hastings Highlands Public Library.

Anita Kennedy works with them as an employment specialist and says their goal is to make sure they can give residents the proper tools to find employment. She adds that with a lot of people coming to the area to retire, workers are always needed.

With 20 years as an employment specialist, Kennedy says that spring and fall are the best times to job search. “A lot of it is due to students being let out of school,” she says. “In spring employers are ready to hire and there’s another boom in the fall when they go back to school.”

When asked about the most important things to keep in mind when looking or interviewing for a job, she says to “be honest, know what skills you have and be confident.” Kennedy adds that you need to tell them what you can do for them, and not what they can do for you.

The workshops will touch on how to polish your resume and application, what to do during an interview, and how to look for a job. Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to attend the free workshops. They will run every Tuesday this month from 4:00 PM until 6 at the Hastings Highlands Public Library in Maynooth.
