The Ministry of Education has approved funding for the reconstruction of Sherwood Public School within Madawaska Valley District High School in Barry’s Bay. The Renfrew County District School Board made the announcement Tuesday, saying the ministry is committing $3.1 million to the rebuild. The school board says the number of students enrolling at both schools is decreasing and that MVDHS has less than 50 percent of the students it can hold. But this won’t be the board’s first junior kindergarten to grade 12 school. Mackenzie Community School in Deep River near Pembroke was the first amalgamated school in Renfrew County. Madawaska Valley council says it supports the rebuild. The project is due to be completed by September 2016.
