Bancroft Releases Survey to Look Into Impact of Single-Use Plastics

The Town of Bancroft wants to get your thoughts on single-use plastics.

Council requested the Community Development committee to do a report on the impact single-use plastics have on Bancroft.

“A single-use plastic item is any product designed for a single use after which is it disposed of, whether into garbage or a waste diversion stream, as solid waste,” Bancroft’s Clerk Lianne Sauter says. Things like plastic water bottles or straws fall under the category of single-use plastics.

A survey has since been put up about single-use plastics in the Town. “The feedback from the survey will go into the report along with research on best practices across the province and internationally,” Sauter says. “We’re taking some time to understand what it looks like on a smaller level and what we may be able to do to help.”

She says from the report, recommendations will be made, starting with a voluntary approach. “Voluntary approaches may include programs, incentives, rewards, or education and promotion campaigns focused on reducing use of single-use items,” Sauter says. “Mandatory approaches to reducing the impact of single-use plastics may include fees, bans, or signage with or without enforcement.”

A link to the survey is available on the Town of Bancroft’s Facebook page.
