Over 10,000 Speeding Charges During Road Safety Week

The numbers for road safety week are in.

The OPP laid almost 12,000 vehicle charges during the week. 10,095 of those charges were for speeding, with another 525 being for not wearing a seat-belt. 251 were laid for distracted driving and 162 were for impaired driving.

OPP East Region said impaired driving is an increasing problem. During the week they laid 34 alcohol impairment charges. They also laid one charge for drug-impaired driving.

The OPP is taking part in numerous campaigns over the summer that centre on road safety. It’s part of a larger Canada-wide initiative to make the country’s roads the safest in the world.
