Maynooth Public School Installing New Swingset Thanks to Contest Winnings

A second place finish in the McDougall Family Fund contest means Maynooth Public School has the $3,000 they need to build a swing set.

Principal Lisa McKenna-Sutherland explains that an extra $2,000 was pitched in from school council to be able to afford the $5,000 swing set. She says it was ordered by the school Tuesday.

“We’re very thankful to our school community for getting the word out there on different social media platforms so we can get this money for our school,” she tells My Bancroft Now.

This is the 6th year of the contest that puts a $5,000 grand prize up for grabs for non-for-profit organizations. A two-minute video is submitted explaining the competing organization and the project they are looking to get funding for. The first place winner gets the grand prize, with second place getting $3,000 and third place getting $2,000 to go towards their project.

McKenna-Sutherland says with the swingset ordered, the school hopes to have it installed by September so it’s ready to go for the first day of school.

Trenton High School won the grand prize of $5,000 to go towards their “Maker Space” project. Roy and Cher’s Rescue Farm in Glengarry, Ontario came in third and will get $2,000 for their spay and neuter program.
