UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Bancroft area

UPDATE (11:45 AM): Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

A line of thunderstorms from north of Haliburton to Deep River is moving northeast at 50 km/h.

Locations impacted include:
Petawawa, Upper Madawaska River Provincial Park, Lake St. Peter Provincial Park, Opeongo River Provincial Park, Bell Bay Provincial Park, Carson Lake Provincial Park, Bonnechere River Provincial Park, Bonnechere Provincial Park, Foy Property Provincial Park, Deep River and Barron River Provincial Park.


A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Bancroft area.

Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The area could see strong wind gusts up to 100 km/h, large hail and heavy rain.

It is warned that strong winds could toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
