Fatal Stabbing in Barrie Was Done in Self-Defence, Charges Dropped

The manslaughter charges against 19-year-old Brett Cummings have been dropped.

CTV Barrie reports the charges were dropped last month. Cummings’ lawyer Mitch Eisen explains that before the May 7th stabbing, his client had been attacked with a hammer. He explains that Cummings then stabbed the 21-year-old Barrie man out of self-defence.

The police report that the two men knew each other.

He had been charged with aggravated assault on top of the manslaughter charge.

Cummings has been living in Bancroft with his grandmother since May. As a part of that, he was ordered to report to the Bancroft OPP on a monthly basis.
