Heat Warning for Bancroft Area

Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for the Bancroft area.

Significant heat and humidity are being called for today.

Daytime temperatures will reach the mid-thirties however the humidex could send us into the forties if not higher today and tomorrow. Little relief will come overnight as temperatures will only fall to mid-twenties with the humidity bringing it near 30.

Relief could come Sunday with a cooler and less humid air mass.

Extreme heat affects everyone with it holding greater risks for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Remember to never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health also remind you to watch for symptoms of heat exhaustion, which include skin rash,  muscle cramps, swelling of hands, feet and ankles, heavy sweating, dizziness, headache or fainting, nausea
or vomiting, rapid breathing and heartbeat, extreme thirst and decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine.

If you experience any of these symptoms, it is advised you immediately move to a cool place and
drink plenty of water.
