Bancroft Terry Fox Run Honoured by Terry Fox Foundation

The Terry Fox Foundation has recognized the hard work put in by the many volunteers that have helped make Bancroft’s Terry Fox Run great.

“The Terry Fox Run Legacy Award in recognition of a community that dares to dream big that imagines a world without cancer that does it best to make a difference with every run,” the award reads.

Since the run started being held locally in 1990, $290,000 has been raised. The current organizer of the run Ron Speck adds that when you factor in what the schools in Town have raised, over $500,000 has been raised.

“I think that’s important to share with past participants, volunteers, coordinators and partners because 25 years of participating in this Canadian event is very special,” Speck says. This will be his sixth year at the head of the run, but with a history dating back two decades, Speck says it’s important to share this award with the community.

This year’s Terry Fox Run will take place in Bancroft on Sunday, September 15th at Millenium Park. More details will be given as that date gets closer, but Speck says registration will start at 8 AM that day with the run kicking off at 9 as walkers, runners and bikers go through the same route as last year on the heritage trail.

He says they hope to push the total the community has raised over the past 26 years over $300,000 this year.
