Public Meeting Happening to go Over Proposed Tiny Homes Zoning By-Law Changes

Hastings Highlands council has been working on a plan to allow tiny homes in the municipality since it was first brought up during a May council meeting.

At their meeting last week, they reviewed a draft of a by-law that would reduce the minimum square foot requirement and allow tiny homes to be built in the municipality. A public meeting has been scheduled to discuss these proposed amendments.

When speaking with My Bancroft Now in May, Mayor of Hastings Highlands Vic Bodnar said living in homes that could be under 400 square feet would be tough. “Physically that might be a doable thing, physiologically that may be a little different,” he said. The maximum size a tiny home can be in 850 square feet.

“We’re doing an investigation now and we’re going to figure out what designs work and what we can do to accommodate whatever is necessary when it comes to the interior of it,” Bodnar said in a follow-up conversation last month.

The meeting will be on Wednesday, September 4th at 9 AM at Hastings Highlands’ municipal office in Maynooth.
