Residential Fire Battled in Bird’s Creek

Hastings Highlands Fire Department has responded to a fire on Ray Road.

The department responded after 12 PM last Friday to a residential structure on fire in the Bird’s Creek Area. Firefighters found smoke coming from the rear of the residence. Four stations and some 30 fire fighters responded to the call. The lone occupant of the building was alerted by the family dog and a working fire alarm, according to the department. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is thought to have started in the basement. The fire is not deemed suspicious.

Hasting Highlands Fire Department remind people to have working smoke alarms in their house or cottage. They say residents would have less than a few minutes to escape a home or cottage, and an escape plan and working fire and CO alarms are key to getting out safe. They say to install fire alarms on every story and outside every sleeping space, test them regularly, and practice your escape plan.
