Maynooth Garlic Festival to Celebrate the Tasty Vegetable

For those with an appreciation for all things Garlic, August 17th is not a date to be missed.

The 3rd annual Maynooth Garlic Festival will be going down Saturday from 8 AM till 4 PM. Organizer Ian Hendry says everything at the festival is garlic themed, from garlic bread to even garlic ice cream. The event is put on by the Bancroft Area Stewardship Council, which Hendry says aims to promote local food for local people. He describes the event as one huge farmers market, with vendors coming from as far as Ottawa. He says people from all over Ontario come to enjoy the food. Hendry says that last year almost 3000 people attended, and based on the growth of the festival, he expects around 5000 people to show up this year.

Live music will also be featured from the Fitzgeralds, a popular band in Hasting’s Highlands. Hendry says that all the musicians are local, and are booked to play all day long. Overall he says it is a celebration of community and the harvest. He says it is about supporting local farmers and buying food locally, adding that the best food to eat is the food in your local markets. He says the live music is a great addition as well.
