Open Doors event scheduled for Highlands East

The municipality is opening its doors to the public as part of a province-wide program.

According to Highlands East staff, as part of the program, the public is going to get access to a number of sites around the community.

The two-day event, happening on September 14th and 15th, has opened the doors of 16 different locations,

Those locations include Hyland Ice in Wilberforce where attendees will get to see how the ice is made. As well as spots like Hunter Lumber, Parquin Lodge, Artech Glassblowing, the Essonville Historic Church, the Wilberforce Red Cross outpost, and the Kidd Schoolhouse Museum.

All of the sites touch on the history of Highlands East and each spot is located around the municipality in Cardiff, Highland Grove, Wilberforce, Tory Hill and Gooderham.

According to Doors Open Ontario, the Red Cross Outpost was the first of its kind in Canada.

Highlands East’s population jumps from roughly 2,700 year-round to 13,000 in the summer months.
