OPP Urge Motorists to Slow Down for Construction

If you break the limit, the consequences are doubled.

OPP is urging motorists to slow down when going through construction zones. Killaloe OPP’s Catherine Yarmel says if you break the speed limit in a construction zone, speeding fines are doubled. She says you need to obey all signage and proceed with caution. That also includes any people or devices that are directing traffic. Yarmel says failure to do so will result in a charge under the Highway Traffic Act.

Yarmel says motorists and traffic workers call in speeding motorists, and OPP investigates any calls of this nature. She says to increase safety, lower speeds are posted in construction zones. This helps drivers better navigate uneven roads, gravel, or narrow lanes. She says it also helps protect workers. Yarmel reminds drivers to be more diligent and pay attention to signage when entering a construction zone.
