Hasting’s Highlands is asking residents to help plan its future.

The township has made public a plan to help with economic revitalization. Chief Administrative Officer for Hastings Highlands Pat Pilgrim says they have extended the deadline to October 1st in hopes there will be more public input.

Pilgrim says the Economic Development Champions Group outlined a list of priorities and goals for the township to achieve. These include goals in marketing and promotion, high-speed internet, attracting and retaining business, attracting tourism and developing housing. Pilgrim says the township is meeting to determine milestones, outcomes, barriers resources and performance measures.

Pilgrim said that tourism is key to this. She said events were needed to attract visitors to the area. She says steps have been taken to attract visitors like putting flags in each hamlet. She also said that the township would try to work with regional partners so their events compliment one another.

Pilgrim says that the township will look at the plan and review it periodically. She says it will be an active document that will not be shelved after the consultation is over. The township will looking to make a strategic plan for themselves, and wants to work in the findings of the survey into that plan.

The township asks to mail responses to the survey to info@hastinghighlands.ca. The full document can be found here.
