Maynooth Community Centre Closed Due to Safety Concerns

A notice was sent out by Hastings Highlands saying that a report has deemed the building “not suitable for occupancy in its existing state.”

The report came from a structural professional engineering assessment. “Public safety remains top priority,” the municipality says.

With the building being closed effective immediately, all active community centre rentals will be notified and have alternative locations offered to them.

Hastings Highlands’ Chief Building Official Martin Cox and Operations Manager Adrian Tomasini will be working with an engineering firm to figure out what the next steps are for the community centre and make a recommendation to council.

The community centre was closed in March 2019 due to safety concerns but was re-opened in April. Hastings Highlands CAO Pat Pilgrim told My Bancroft Now at the time the report stated there was “no immediate major safety concerns.”

The municipality did not say how long they expect the community centre to be closed for this time around.
