Fall Watermain Flushing Beginning in Bancroft

It’s a sign that the colder temperatures are on their way – watermain flushing is beginning in Bancroft.

The program will last three weeks and will start this Sunday at 9 PM and run until the 19th. It will start at that time every evening and end at 6 AM the next day. The second week of flushing will start on September 29th and end on October 4th with work also happening between 9 PM and 6 AM. The last week is tentative, but if it does happen, will start on the 14th and end of the 19th from 8 PM to 6 AM every day.

The Town of Bancroft says they do the program to make sure that sediment accumulation is removed from the watermains so that good water quality can be maintained in the distribution system.

It’s possible that you could see discoloured water and lower than normal water pressure over the next three weeks. That’s normal to see when watermain flushing is on-going in your area. If that does happen, though, the Town says to run cold water for a few minutes each morning to clear up the discoloured water from your plumbing. The low pressure is because hydrants are being turned on and off, the length of time necessary to flush the debris out of the lines and opening, and closing isolation valves.

Following those steps should clear up any problems in a few minutes. The Town adds that it’s difficult to predict which locations this will happen at or the extent of what will happen.

The Town of Bancroft posted a schedule of what streets the flushing will be happening on. You can find that information on their Facebook page.
