The Canadian Union of Public Employees represents education workers in Ontario and says its members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a potential strike.
CUPE received a “no-board” notice from the Ministry of Labour Monday and will be in a legal strike position on Monday, September 30th.
By the end of the month, up to 55,000 members of the CUPE represent education workers said they could be on strike. They say the strike vote was 93 percent in favour as members fight back against cuts to education by the provincial government.
The President of CUPE’s bargaining unit Laura Walton says members are prepared to walk off the job in order to push back against what they see as cuts that will compromise the quality of education in Ontario’s schools.
