Public Meeting to be Held to Discuss Potential Library Move

The North Hastings Public Library is on the move from their current spot on Flint Avenue to Club 580.

“Yes this is the location and this is what’s going to happen, but it’s all a concept,” explains Library CEO Kim McMunn. That is why she says they are holding a public meeting on Wednesday at the municipal office. “We want to know what people want out of their future library,” McMunn says.

She says that Town council has agreed to provide the land and a place to put the library adjacent to Club 580. McMunn says club members have also shared their excitement about the move.

The move would see a 4,000 square foot addition to Club 580. The club would be dubbed the “North Hastings Community Hub” and become a “gathering space” for the community with additions to what is already offered by Club 580.

“We’re grateful for a place to keep us out of the weather, but we don’t have accessibility (at this location),” McMunn explains. By moving to the much bigger Club 580 it would allow more people to visit the library. It would also allow them to revamp their infrastructure. Essentially, McMunn says it will give them a fresh start and will allow them to offer more at the library.

The public meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 25th at 7 PM at the municipal office. The library has also put out a survey that you can find on their Facebook page.
