Counterfeit Money Investigation Leads to Charges

Rumours of counterfeit money being circulated have lead to charges being laid.

OPP received a call around noon last Wednesday. The force says counterfeit money was being used in Madawaska Valley Township. Several reports said that local businesses were receiving counterfeit $100 bills.

As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old from Carlo-Mayo Township was arrested. He was charged with possession of counterfeit money and three counts of uttering counterfeit money. The accused has been released on a promise to appear in court in Killaloe.

Police are still asking anyone with extra information to step forward.
