Volunteers Needed For Eagle’s Nest Clean-up

“We are so proud of what we have,” Chair of the Stewards of Eagle’s Nest Dora Yateman says ahead of their clean-up of the iconic look-out point.

They did a clean-up earlier this year at the start of summer in June.

Yateman says last time out most people didn’t bring gloves, which she strongly suggests any volunteers bring this time around. She says it will also be important to dress according to the weather along with wearing proper boots or shoes.

“We’ll be looking to trim back some of the trail brush,” Yateman explains. She says they’re also hoping to do transplanting with some ferns, but are unsure if they will go forward with that idea. “The idea of transplanting ferns is to close off some social trails that people wander on, but don’t know where they are when they come out,” she explains. “Those aren’t meant to be trails.”

Yateman says it’s hard to find ferns this time of year and aren’t sure if they will take if planted.

She also wants to put something in place to deter people from going to culturally sensitive areas as well.

Yateman says it’s important to keep the look-out and trails clean so the Town is putting a good foot forward when visitors check out the look-out point. With the leaves already starting to change colours, she says now is when the look-out will be busy.

There will be veggie and beef chilli on-site and drinks will be available as well. The clean-up starts at 9 AM on October 19th. If you want to help out, you’re being asked to call 613-332-7020 to confirm.
