Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is teaming up with Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario to offer pap tests in Bancroft.

Public Health’s Program Manager for Clinical Services Stephanie McFaul explains that women need to get the test done once every three years between the ages of 21 and 70 years old. “It’s looking for abnormal changes in the cervix as an early precursor that will give us signals that we need to do some further follow-ups,” she explains.

McFaul stresses that all staff are well-trained and will do everything they can to make whoever is getting testing comfortable. “The earlier you can recognize possible changes the more chance you have at dealing with it before it becomes cancer,” she adds.

These tests are available for those without health care providers as well.

The “party” will be from 5:30 PM until 7:30 on October 21st. You can book an appointment by calling 1-800-567-2222, extension 7809 or emailing cancercaresoutheast@kingstonhsc.ca. You will need a health card on the day of the test. McFaul says the rest of what you need will be detailed once you book an appointment.
