Hastings Highlands Looking For Community Input on Strategic Plan

“A strategic plan allows for council, staff and the community to work together to achieve a vision that provides a focus on the big picture in the municipality,” explains Treasurer David Stewart.

Mayor of Hastings Highlands Vic Bodnar adds that it’s council’s “gameplan” for their term. Among other things, Bodnar says the plan helps council handle things like non-tax revenue, how taxes are spent, affordable housing-related issues and climate change.

After hosting a public meeting earlier in October, Hastings Highlands council is looking for more input from the community. You can get a hard copy of the survey at their municipal office in Maynooth or online. You need to complete the survey by the start of November. “Council wants confirmation that they’re on the right track and haven’t missed anything of important nature to the community,” Stewart says.

Bodnar explains that what council does during their term must relate to the plan’s four priorities of financial stability, rationalize infrastructure, build our community, and exceptional service and governance. “Anything that we do through the municipality has to reflect back on the strategic plan,” he says.

He adds that the document will be finalized “very soon.”
