Conservative Derek Sloan unofficially elected as MP in Hastings-Lennox and Addington

Derek Sloan has unseated Liberal Mike Bossio to become the unofficial MP in the riding.

“We’ve been working really hard over the last months,” Sloan told My Bancroft Now from his campaign party. “I’m ready to take on this responsibility and humbled by the choice of the riding, but I’m ready to get to work.” Sloan says he will be reaching out to Bossio and will be talking to municipal leaders in Hastings-Lennox and Addington to find out more about their priorities.

“I wish him well,” Bossio told My Bancroft Now. “I am here to help to make it a smooth transition.” He added that he hopes Sloan “maximizes the opportunity” to serve his constituents. “Everybody knows that I love what I do and it’s been an incredible honour to serve the constituents of Hastings-Lennox and Addington,” Bossio went on to say.

Bossio says, despite the loss, he’s in a “good place” knowing he’s had a great opportunity to be MP.

As of Monday morning, only two polls of the 224 in Hastings-Lennox and Addington have not reported. Sloan has 41.4-percent of the vote to Bossio’s 37-percent. NDP candidate David Tough has 13.3-percent, the Green Party’s Sari Watson is at 5.8-percent and the People’s Party of Canada’s Adam Gray is at 2.5-percent.
