1,181,053 students and 7,855 schools voted in an unofficial election CIVIX does in partnership with Elections Canada.
Unofficially, the Liberals won a minority government Monday night. The student vote mirrors that with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s party winning 109 seats. Meanwhile, the Conservatives – like in the federal election – won the popular vote with 25-percent but were third in seats with 94 behind the NDP’s 98. The Green Party made a big jump getting 28 seats. The Bloc Quebecois won nine seats, while the People’s Party of Canada got none.
At North Hastings High School, 290 kids voted for Conservative Derek Sloan to be MP in Hastings-Lennox and Addington, like in the federal election. Liberal Mike Bossio got 63 votes, which is 10 votes behind the NDP’s David Tough. Green Party candidate Sari Watson got 39 votes, while the People’s Party of Canada’s Adam Gray got 15 votes. 17 votes were spoiled.
In the province, the Liberals led the way with 54 votes, followed by the NDP with 34.
PPC leader Maxime Bernie and Bloc Quebecois leader Yves-Francois Blanchet were the only major party leaders to not win their seat.
