Legion hosting poster and literary contest in lead-up to Remembrance Day

Students in North Hastings will have their artwork proudly displayed in the main hall of the Bancroft Legion on Remembrance Day.

Local elementary school students and kids from North Hastings High School can choose to create a poster with the theme of “remembrance” or write an essay on the same subject. The contest has been on-going since October with the deadline to submit an entry on Wednesday.

Public Relations Officer with the Bancroft Legion Lynn Watson says there are prizes to be won for both categories.

“Supporting our military is incredibly important,” Watson says. “If we’re not talking about it, we’re  not thinking about it.” She adds that it’s vital for students to learn about Canada’s military history since so many of the rights and freedoms Canadians have are thanks to and protected by the military.

The posters and essays will be on display at the Legion on Station Street on Remembrance Day. Watson invites all residents to check them out before or after Monday’s ceremony.
