CARE North Hastings expanding Meals on Wheels program

An expansion of CARE North Hastings’ Meals on Wheels program means the Maynooth and Maple Leaf area will now have access to hot meals from them.

Program and Outreach Coordinator Jenn Postma says they currently send out frozen meals once a month, but hot meals will now be delivered every Thursday. “We’re hoping it will grow to two days a week,” she says.

Volunteers will take the meals made by Memories Tea Room And Bakery to the clients home every week. “Often they’ll have a visit with the volunteers as well, and that may be the only visit that client has all week since a lot of our seniors clients are isolated,” Postma says. While the meals are important, she says the visits are just as important.

Those who make an order will get an entree, side and dessert for a yet to be determined price. Postma says the meals on wheels service in Bancroft costs $7, and she says it will be the same price for hot meals in the Hastings Highlands area.

Postma says they’re currently reaching out to their clients in Hastings Highlands to gauge interest in the program.

CARE North Hastings’ Meals on Wheels program serves nearly 250 people in North Hastings.

Information on how to contact them to make an order is available on their website.
