Movie shot in Maynooth to be shown in Emond Hall

The Manhattan Project was shot primarily in the Madawaska Valley, but parts were also shot in the Maynooth.

The movie was co-written and directed by Matthew Campanile. After the film premiered at the Toronto Independent Film Festival over the summer, he told My Bancroft Now he hoped to show it at other film festivals, before eventually showing it in the areas where it was shot.

Hastings Highlands council will be partnering with the Maynooth and Hastings Highlands Business Association to host a showing at Emond Hall on January 18th. “It’s pretty exciting,” says Joey Shulman, who worked with the Maynooth & Hastings Highlands Business Association to get the film shown locally, and also plays a role in the movie.

Shulman plays “Reg” who makes the “perfect Manhattan” and, without spoiling it, plays an important role in how the movie ends and the relationship between the two main characters. Other than Shulman, he says he counted 50 locals in the movie.

“There aren’t that many movie openings in Maynooth or Bancroft,” Shulman jokes. He says there will be a red carpet for those attending to walk, and he hopes to get a spotlight as well to give it even more of a Hollywood feel.

Tickets will cost $5 with proceeds going to the Maynooth Foodbank. You can buy one at the Maynooth General Store, or e-transfer the money to [email protected]. The showing gets underway at 7:30 PM with an after-party happening across the street at The Arlington after the movie ends.
