Volunteers needed to help with warming centre

St Paul’s United Church is putting the call out to the community to volunteer to help them with their warming centre.

Volunteer Coordinator of the warming centre Judy Edgar tells My Bancroft Now they are looking for people to help with the late-night and overnight shifts. She explains they work in four-hour shifts with the first one going from 4 PM until 8, then 8 until midnight, midnight until 4 AM and from 4 until they close at 8:30 AM. “We also need people to clean and help do laundry,” Edgar adds.

She says that food, clothing and other supplies are not needed right now.

You can call Edgar at 613-332-3657 if you’re interested in helping out.

It was announced earlier this week that St Paul’s will be opening their doors this Sunday at 4 PM for those looking for shelter from the cold. They will stay open until 8:30 AM Saturday morning. The church will continue to do that until 8:30 AM on Thursday the 9th.

“No questions asked, if you just want to come in a visit you can just do that,” Edgar says. Chilli or soup will be ready when doors open at 4 PM and a meal will be prepared for those that stay overnight as well.

“Right now, St Paul’s is enough,” Edgar says when asked if they have enough space. She adds that they have plenty of room. Edgar does mention that a meeting is coming up on January 14th at 4:30 PM at the church to discuss what needs to be done moving forward as we move into the colder months.
