Hastings-Prince Edward District School Board and Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association to take part in one-day strike

The rotating strikes by teachers across Ontario will continue next week, with local teachers taking part for the second time.

Hastings-Prince Edward District School Board announced school and all activities will be cancelled students across the school board on Tuesday, January 21st, including for grade nine to 12 students at North Hastings High School.

“All school activities, including field trips and co-op placements, are cancelled for the day,” the school board says. They add that any students in grades nine to 12 that show up for school or co-op placement will be asked to go home for the day.

Next week will be the fifth week of the rotating strikes by high school teachers. Teachers with Hastings-Prince Edward District School Board first participated in the rotating one-day strikes in December.

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association will also be holding a one-day strike on Tuesday as well. That will affect the Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, meaning Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School will be closed on the 21st.

A partial withdrawal of services was started by the Catholic school board earlier this week.

These strikes are all dependant on a deal being reached between the provincial government and the school boards. If a deal is reached before, Tuesday, schools are expected to be open as normal.
