Hastings-Prince Edward Public Health sent out notices to students in the area to get their vaccinations updated before April 7th or else they will be suspended.
292 letters were sent out at the beginning of January to students in North Hastings. While exact numbers weren’t provided to the MyBancroftNow.com newsroom, Public Health says 18-percent of students at Hermon Public School need their shots updated. That is followed by Maynooth Public School at 17-percent, North Hastings High School at 15-percent, Bird’s Creek Public School at 10-percent, York River Public School at 8.5-percent, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School at 8-percent, and Coe Hill School at 6-percent.
If students don’t get their vaccinations records updated before the April 7th deadline or get a valid exemption from Public Health, they will be suspended until that is done.
“Up until this point, no students have been suspended,” Registered Practical Nurse with HPEPH Alisha Hanes says. “The most important reason to keep children’s immunizations up to date is to protect children from diseases that could otherwise cause serious health issues.”
A total of 2,503 notices went out to students in the region that Public Health looks after.
