St Paul’s United Church holding fundraiser for their outreach committee

St Paul’s United Church will be serving up homemade food to you so they can continue lending a helping hand in the community.

For $7, you can have homemade soup or chilli along with a bun and a slice of cheesecake. Reverend Lynn Watson explains all the money raised goes to their outreach committee. “That’s the committee that sees that there are funds for people that come in needing help with groceries,” she explains, noting groceries is not all they use the funding for. Watson says they have helped a family in need to purchase a new mattress to replace the one they had that was overridden by bed bugs. “Folks have approached when they needed money for gas to get to doctor appointments,” she adds.

Watson says they also make sure to donate some of the money to local charitable organizations like North Hastings Community Trust, Bancroft Community Trust and local youth organizations.

“We’re always looking for money because the demand for help is always growing,” Watson explains. She says this fundraiser usually brings in $500 to $600, but the need in the community is growing. “Every year there’s more money going out,” she says.

The fundraiser is Friday, February 14 from 11:30 AM until 1 PM at St Paul’s United Church. If you aren’t able to make it you can order takeout by calling 613-332-1900. Watson asks you place your takeout order before Wednesday if possible but says they will be filling ones placed Thursday and Friday.
