Combermere Recreation Committee honoured by Madawaska Valley Mayor

In honour of their work in the community, the Combermere Recreation Committee has received the 2019 Mayor’s Appreciation Award.

The award was given out by the Madawaska Valley Township Mayor Kim Love during a council meeting. Love praised the committee for reigniting community spirit in the area. She says despite the committee being publicly funded and running on volunteers, it has survived and thrived. Love especially thanked those members of the committee who worked during holiday events. She says it required a special kind of dedication.

On hand to accept the award was committee chair Nancy Betournay, along with a number of volunteers. Betournay thanked the 2017 executive for building the foundation to move forward, as well as thanking the volunteers, donors and businesses for helping the committee grow. She said one of the major projects the committee accomplished was rebuilding part of the Combermere Rik destroyed in the tornado of 2006. The building is still on-going, but the committee says it will be done later this year.
