Bancroft OPP was called just after 10 PM Friday night after a snowmobile went through the ice on the York River in town.
When police initially arrived at the scene they weren’t able to locate the man or the snowmobile and the OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit had to be called in. They were able to locate the driver.
40-year-old Matt Porter of North Middlesex, Ontario was pronounced dead at the scene.
