Two men fined for careless hunting violations in Carlow/Mayo Township after MNRF investigation

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry began an investigation into potential hunting violations in November 2019, and charges have now been laid.

On November 12th, 2019, conservation officers from the Bancroft enforcement Unit of the MNRF found evidence of recent deer hunting activity while patrolling in Carlow/Mayo Township. “An investigation determined that earlier that day two men had harvested two deer near Hass Road and that both men discharged their firearm across the road,” the MNRF say in their report.

A man from Foxboro and a man from Campbellford were later fined $3,000 as a result of the investigation for discharging a firearm without reasonable consideration for people or property and another $500 for possessing illegally killed wildlife. Both received one-year suspensions of their hunting licenses and must retake the Ontario Hunter Education Course before they can hunt again.

Both men pleaded guilty to their charges on March 3rd.

The MNRF says the seized deer was donated to a local charity.
