Bancroft’s Rockhound Gemboree cancelled

The 2020 edition of the Rockhound Gemboree has been cancelled by the Town of Bancroft.

“The uncertainty created by the COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult to plan the event with any sense of success,” the Town of Bancroft says in a statement. They add that they’re uncertain when the provincial government will relax physical distancing measures, which makes it difficult to plan the event “with any sense of success.”

In December 2019, Bancroft’s Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Bancroft announced they will be teaming up to run the event. In past years the Gemboree was run solely by the Chamber. “The transition was made to allow the Chamber to focus on its mandate of serving its members across fourteen municipalities as the Town renews its commitment to growing the Mineral Capital of Canada brand,” the Town says.

“The Gemboree has evolved steadily over the last 57 years and provides unparalleled opportunity to acquire specimens, jewelry, materials, and much more,” the Town says. “2020 was to be an exciting show with new opportunities to learn about Bancroft’s unique gem and mineral history.”

The Town says they look forward to 2021’s Rockhound Gemboree and continuing the event’s 57-year legacy.
