Moose FM announcer to cut off hair for charity

Moose FM’s Mathew Reisler will be cutting off his hair to benefit Maggie’s Resource Centre.

“I’m absolutely thrilled (Moose FM) reached out with this idea,” Executive Director of Maggie’s Tanya MacKinnon tells the MyBancroftNow.com newsroom. She explains that while they do get funding from the province which they’re able to use to cover the cost of running their programs and to pay staff, it doesn’t cover all of the needs of women in the community. MacKinnon explains there may be a demand that they aren’t able to cover such as extra safety equipment. “Anything extra that comes in gives us the opportunity to provide more to women who come through our doors,” she adds.

“When it comes to violence against women it’s always nice to know we have some male allies out there,” MacKinnon says about the fundraiser.

The fundraising goal is $500 and when that mark is hit the shaving will be done on Facebook Live with Moose FM’s Sarah Kipp handling the cutting armed with a Hockey stick with a razor attached to the end.

“The mullet they say is trying to make a comeback,” MacKinnon jokes but says her vote is to see Reisler end up with a bowl cut.

You can donate to Maggie’s via Canada Helps. Whoever donates the most will get to decide how Reisler’s hair is styled for 24 hours before it’s completely shaved.
