2020 North Hastings Hospital Auxiliary Radiothon cancelled

Moose FM’s radiothon for the North Hastings Hospital Auxiliary is their biggest fundraiser of the year, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it will not be happening this year.

“It was a really difficult decision,” Auxiliary Past President Debbie Speck tells the MyBancroftNow.com newsroom. “They were uncomfortable fundraising and asking for money from people when people maybe had personal causes they need to look after.”

Due to past radiothons surpassing the set fundraising goal and the other avenues the Auxiliary has to raise money like the Corner Cafe, New to You thrift shop on Hastings Street North and the Festival of Trees, Speck says they will be able to donate money to the North Hastings Hospital.

However, if people still do want to donate, you can. A website has been set-up by the Fund Development Committee that allows you to donate online or by cheque.

“Right now, it’s unknown what the expenses will be like coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Speck says. While they’re cancelling the radiothon with the thought that people might not be able to donate as they normally would, she says if you are able to contribute, then it would be appreciated.

Speck hopes to have the radiothon back on the air in 2021. “It’s a lot of fun and we look forward to it every year,” she says.
