No new cases, but fifth COVID-19 related death reported by Public Health

There are still 43 lab-confirmed cases of COVId-19 between Hastings and Prince Edward Counties, but Public Health is reporting a resident at a long-term care centre is the fifth death in the region they serve.

Monday was the last time a new lab-confirmed case was reported by Hastings-Prince Edward Public Health. However, the health unit is offering their condolences today because a long-term care resident has died due to the virus.

“We also commend all long-term care staff in the region for their continued dedication to containing the spread of COVID-19 while providing the best care possible to their residents,” Public Health says in a statement provided to the MyBancroftNow.com newsroom. “Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has tested all area long-term care residents and staff for COVID-19 and will continue to support efforts to fight the spread of the virus.”

Public Health reports that 20 people have gone on to recover from the virus.

4,148 tests have been done by Public Health with 3,794 coming back negative. The positivity rate in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties is 1.1-percent. 310 tests are pending.

There’s been no change to how many lab-confirmed cases are in North Hastings. Public Health says there are between five to nine cases in the area.
