Roughly 50 contract elementary teachers across North Hastings will be taking job action May 11.
Hastings branch President of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario Dave Henderson says occasional teachers will be impacted too, despite being in a different bargaining unit. He says this work action is to do with central bargaining, not local negotiations, and that the ETFO will be talking with the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board in May and June.
But Henderson says parents shouldn’t worry about their kids’ teachers walking off the job come Monday.
He says it’s about standing up for teachers’ rights when the Ontario Liberal government is trying to micromanage them to take away their professional rights.
