Town of Bancroft buildings department taking time during pandemic to catch up on overdue work

The COVID-19 pandemic has allowed the Town of Bancroft’s Buildings Department time to catch up on overdue work.

Building and Facilities Manager Pat Hoover says over the past two months they’ve done general maintenance on all municipally-owned buildings.

“We’ve installed eavestroughs, we’ve had some siding issues on the outside where it was removed,” Hoover says about the repairs being done on the Millenium Park bathrooms. He says that the siding was rotting along the bottom. “Internally, we’ve gutted the bathrooms and had new ceramic tiles installed on the floor,” he adds. “We’re working on some cladding on the inside so it’s easier to clean, wash and disinfect the bathrooms better moving forward,” Hoover adds. The ceilings in the bathroom were also painted and new toilets were installed.

Hoover says the work is an attempt to make the often vandalized bathroom “vandal proof.”

He says they’ve also done work at Vance Park by repairing one of the trail bridges and they also painted and installed new flooring at the Dungannon Rec. Centre.

The work being done is possible because municipal buildings are not in use, which allows crews to start and finish projects with no inference from people using the facilities. “It allows us to start a project and leave our stuff out and not have to clean up and wait,” Hoover says.
