Daytime burn ban in effect in all North Hastings municipalities except Wollaston Township

The province has lifted the total fire ban in its Restricted Fire Zone, but municipal fire departments in North Hastings still have rules in place if you plan on having a fire.

In Bancroft, Hastings Highlands and Faraday, Tudor/Cashel, Carlow/Mayo, and Limerick Townships a daytime burn ban will be in effect as of 12:01 AM Saturday, May 16th. That means no open-air burning will be allowed between 7 AM to 7 PM.

Campfires will be allowed two hours after sunset and must be put out two hours before sunrise.

In those six municipalities, fireworks will be allowed after the daytime ban hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Wollaston Township will be under a total burn ban until further notice, meaning even campfires and fireworks are not permitted.

Bancroft’s Deputy Fire Chief Matt Musclow tells the MyBancroftNow.com newsroom that while a daytime burn ban will be in effect for the long weekend, you need to ensure you are being careful if you are setting off fireworks or starting a campfire.

Fire permits differ between fire departments in North Hastings so contact your local department for more information on that, or with any other questions.

You are asked to always have adequate tools and water to extinguish your campfire if the need arises. You must be with your fire at all times.

Before lighting your fire make sure you know the rules in your municipality by checking your municipal website.
