Bancroft Curling Club working to provide masks to the community

With the Bancroft Curling Club unable to get together as they normally do at the North Hastings Community Centre, they are working from their homes to provide masks for the community.

“There’s been a huge initiative locally where masks are being made for hospitals and retirement homes,” Bancroft Curling Club member Lesley Ferrier says. “I’m not sure how many are doing them for the general community.”

She explains they started making masks for businesses but later opened it up to anyone who needs one.

“We’re working on them individually at our homes,” Ferrier says. She adds that everything – including their hands – is washed before they started making the masks. Ferrier does suggest that people who receive one still wash it before wearing it.

Ferrier says there is no limit on how many asks a person can order, but the full order may not be completed right away. “But we will work to make sure all the masks ordered are made,” she says. You can order a mask by emailing [email protected] or calling Ferrier at 613-339-3113. If you’re interested in donating, Ferrier says to reach out via those avenues. Fabric must be 100-percent cotton. “If we find at the end of this there’s cash leftover, we’re going to donate it to the North Hastings Community Cupboard,” she says.

Arrangements will be made after masks are ordered on how they will be picked up.

Ferrier says the curling club is working to figure out what the need is like in the community so they can judge how many masks they need to prepare. “We’re really hoping we can help make a difference in the community,” she says.
