The Switchyard in Bancroft holding two week fundraiser to get them “Back on Track”

Around this time is when The Switchyard in Bancroft hosts its annual BBQ auction at their building beside the train station, but because of COVID-19, they are changing things up this year.

“We are having an online fundraising campaign called ‘Back on Track,'” Managing Director of The Switchyard Kelsey Watts tells the MyBancroftNow.com newsroom. She says they will be taking donations from June 3rd to the 17th in hopes of reaching their goal of $10,000.

“We’re asking for support from our community as we’re coming out of isolation to help us get back on track to supporting our youth,” Watts says.

The programs that donations will help support include the youth group get together that happens once a week and the game nights that happen twice a month. Any donations will also help pay for two staff members at The Switchyard, insurance and other fees, and things like water, heating and the internet bill.

Watts says they will be engaging people through their social media platforms on Facebook during the two week fundraiser. She says they will be sharing stories throughout the day about what they do at The Switchyard and how they help youth in the community. “We’ll be pulling from our legacy of being around for 26 years,” Watts says. More information is available on what they will be doing and how to donate on their website.

She says they hope to involve businesses by having them sponsor a day and match donations made on that day up to $500.

While the BBQ that would have been held sometime this month has been cancelled, Watts says she hopes to hold a “smaller scale” BBQ in the fall. “That all depends on how re-opening the province unfolds,” she adds.
